Measure the Window for Inside Mount
Measure the Depth

Measure the depth at the top inside of your window frame to ensure there is enough space for a secure inside mount. This measurement will also determine whether a flush mount installation is possible (where the product fits completely inside the frame without protruding).Minimum depth requirements vary by product—please refer to the chart below for specific depth requirements for each shade type. This is essential for a proper inside mount.

Measure the Width

Because window frames are not always perfectly square, measure the inside width of the window in three places: top, middle, and bottom.Use the narrowest of the three measurements as your ordering width, rounding down to the nearest 1/8 inch.

Measure the Length

To determine the height, measure the inside height of the window in three places: left, center, and right.Use the longest of the three measurements as your ordering height, rounding down to the nearest 1/8 inch.

Deduction Instructions

To ensure your blackout shade fits perfectly, we make slight width adjustments based on the chosen installation type. These deductions help achieve a smooth, precise fit and make installation easier.

  • No-Drill Installation: Recommended ordering width = window frame width − 1/8 inch
  • Drill Installation: Recomended ordering width = window frame width − 1/4 inch
  • This adjustment ensures the shade fits snugly within the window frame and operates smoothly after installation.
Measuring Window Size (for Outside Mount Installation)
Check the Space:

Measure the height above the window where the headrail will be installed.Make sure there is enough space to properly and securely mount the brackets and headrail.

Measure the Width:

Measure the width of the window. For framed windows, start from the outer edge of the frame or trim.If space allows, add 2–4 inches (1–2 inches on each side) to minimize light leakage. The adjusted value will be your ordering width, representing the total width of the shade.

Measure the Height:

Measure the height of the window (from outer edge to outer edge of the frame). If space allows, mount the shade 10–12 inches above the top of the window frame to allow space for the stack height when fully raised and to maximize natural light.
